Creative Commons, founded in 2001, is an American non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creative works available for others legally to build upon and share. It offers a suite of copyright licenses providing a simple, standardized way to give the public permission to share and use creative work. Based in Mountain View, California, their mission is to allow creators to relinquish some of their copyright terms for the benefit of users and a more global digital culture.
